Meet Our Pediatric Dentists Near Arlington Heights
Dr. Nicholas Capezio, DMD
With both parents being physicians, Dr. Nick always knew that he wanted to pursue a career in the healthcare field. During his early years in college, he worked alongside an oral surgeon in Skokie, who helped build his interest in dentistry by showing how the work could blend art, science, and social skills. Today, he’s happy to say that he’s found his dream job and has never looked back! He loves being a pediatric dentist and being able to help children achieve their best oral health.
Dr. Nick graduated from Tulane University before moving on to study at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine for his dental doctorate. During his education, he’s received various certifications and even won the International College of Dentist’s Humanitarian Award as well as the Quintessence Award for Outstanding Dental Achievement due to a project involving his help in developing a dental prevention program for children in Estelí, Nicaragua. He’s also a proud member of several professional organizations like the American Dental Association and the Illinois Society of Pediatric Dentists.
When he isn’t at the office, Dr. Nick tries to stay active in his spare time, enjoying things like bike riding, hiking, and water skiing. He also likes watching sports and follows his favorite teams, the Bulls, Bears, and Blackhawks. Due to living in Ecuador for 10 months prior to dental school, he knows how to speak Spanish!
Dr. Ted Loiben, DDS
Raised in Lincolnwood, Dr. Ted knew ever since he was a kid that he wanted to become a dentist just like his father. After graduating from Niles West High School, he went on to attend Tulane University in New Orleans for his undergraduate degree in Biology before going to Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago for his Doctor of Dental Surgery. Now, he gets to work alongside an incredible team while helping little ones maintain and improve their pearly whites.
Dr. Ted went to Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center in Chicago to complete a one-year general practice residency. There, he received extensive training in oral surgery and anesthesia. During his time as a general dentist, he grew a passion for working with younger patients and utilizing both his personality and his dental skills to help children feel more comfortable while undergoing dental treatment. For this reason, he went to study at the University of Nebraska’s two-year residency program for a certificate of specialty in pediatric dentistry. This curriculum involved all phases of a child’s psychological development as well as hands-on experience in caring for severely apprehensive patients who required checkups and/or other complex procedures. While challenging, Dr. Ted absolutely loves what he does.

How do I get emergency dental care for my child?
Did your child knock out a tooth while playing a sport? Are they favoring one side of their mouth because it hurts to bite down? Do they struggle with persistent dental sensitivity? If so, you should contact us ASAP to schedule an emergency exam. In fact, if your child is experiencing any abnormal dental symptoms, you should call us so we can determine what the root of the problem is. The sooner we do, the sooner we can restore your child’s healthy, happy smile!
What level of education is required to be a dentist?
The road to becoming a dentist is long, and it requires years of dedication, schooling, and training. The first step is earning an undergraduate degree. The second step is completing three years of intensive in-classroom and hands-on training at one of only 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S.
At this point, they obtain their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) degree, which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself. However, if they want to become a pediatric dentist, then they need to complete additional training, which is often another three years or more of dental school. Even then, they need to undergo continuing education hours each year to maintain their license. So, the process of learning, growing, and honing their skills is never really over!
How can I make a same-day appointment with a pediatric dentist?
Usually, same-day appointments are reserved for dental emergencies, like a persistent toothache or knocked out tooth. With that said, there’s always a chance that we had a last-minute cancellation, so it’s worth giving us a call to see if we have any availability! Over the phone, we can learn more about the reason for the visit, take a look at our schedule, and schedule the earliest appointment we have. Since we offer morning, lunchtime, afternoon, and weekend hours, there’s a good chance that we’ll be able to schedule a visit within a day or two, if not the very same day.
